The Federal Government has disbursed a cumulative total of ₦2.45 trillion to the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over an 18-month period to accelerate infrastructure development and strengthen security interventions nationwide.
The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, disclosed this in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday.
According to Bwala, the funds were released between March 2024 and August 2025 to support critical projects at the subnational level, including the rehabilitation of roads and bridges, improvement of schools and health facilities, and the enhancement of security operations across communities.
Official records from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation indicate these payments were drawn from non-oil revenue savings.
“Between March 2024 and August 2025, the Federal Government released a total of ₦2.45 trillion to the 36 states and the FCT for infrastructure and security projects,” Bwala stated, adding that the intervention is producing verifiable gains.
He noted that the support is targeted at areas where Nigerians require tangible improvements, stressing that infrastructure and security remain key pillars for sustainable development and social stability.
Bwala explained that federal financial support to states is consistent with global best practices, citing countries such as the United States and India, where central governments routinely provide funding to state and local authorities to drive infrastructure, education, health, and public safety initiatives. “This approach is not new globally.
Countries like the United States regularly provide federal funding to state and local governments to support infrastructure, education, health and public safety,” he said.
The presidential aide noted that the disbursements align with the broader policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, particularly the 2025 Budget of Restoration.
This strategic framework, titled “Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” prioritizes security, infrastructure, health, and education while emphasizing transparency and the accelerated delivery of public works.
“Under President Tinubu’s 2025 Budget of Restoration, priority remains on security, infrastructure, health and education,” Bwala said.
He added that sustained cooperation between the Federal Government and the states is essential to achieving a safer and more prosperous Nigeria, noting that effective utilization of these funds will translate into improved outcomes for citizens nationwide.
