The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), for questioning.
Malami, in a post shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, confirmed receiving the invitation and assured Nigerians of his willingness to cooperate fully with the anti-graft agency.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.
The former AGF explained that making the development public was consistent with his long-standing advocacy for transparency and responsible governance.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added.
He noted that he would keep the public informed as events unfold.
Malami served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had yet to release details regarding the invitation or the allegations prompting the action.
Malami, last week, formally declared interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
Now a member of the new opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Malami recently criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of worsening insecurity in the North and leaving farmers vulnerable to violent attacks.
He lamented that persistent bandit raids had driven many farmers away from their lands, causing significant disruptions to food production.
