From Victor Osula, Abuja

Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor has condemned the life sentence handed down on the proscribed IPOB leader, by Justice James Omotoso of the Federal High Court Abuja, on Thursday, describing it as a setback for Nigeria’s judiciary.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Kanu’s lawyer said: “I feel very bad, I feel sad, it’s a very bad day for the judiciary, it is very bad for the criminal justice system in Nigeria. This is the first time in my entire life as a lawyer that I have seen a man being convicted for mere words he uttered.”
He added that the defence team is preparing to challenge the verdict at the Court of Appeal, insisting that Kanu’s conviction was unfair and that due process was not followed.
