President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Wednesday for a two-nation diplomatic tour, visiting Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, said Tinubu’s first stop is Johannesburg to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit. Following the summit, he will proceed to Angola for the AU-EU summit.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20, invited Tinubu to participate in this year’s summit.
Previously, Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, during his 2024 G20 presidency, also extended an invitation to Tinubu for the Rio de Janeiro summit.
The two-day G20 Summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will hold from Saturday, November 22, to Sunday, November 23, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. It will convene leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, the European Union, the African Union, and major financial institutions.
Participants will deliberate across three plenary sessions on inclusive and sustainable growth, trade, financing for development, and the debt burden; a resilient world, including disaster risk reduction, climate change, energy transitions, and food systems; and a fair and just future for all, covering critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence.
Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda and discuss regional and global peace, security, and development.
After the G20 Summit, Tinubu will join Heads of State and Government from the African Union and European Union for the 7th AU-EU summit in Luanda, Angola, scheduled for November 24–25.
The summit will bring together young leaders, innovators, and civil society organizations to address shared challenges, including climate change, inclusive development, infrastructure, the digital economy, creative industries, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
The President will be accompanied by key officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake, Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of both summits.
