The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a fresh twist on Saturday as the National Working Committee (NWC) suspended several top national officers, including the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), for 30 days.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, announced the development while briefing journalists after an emergency NWC meeting held at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to Ologunagba, the suspension followed allegations of anti-party activities and conduct capable of bringing the party into disrepute.
He stated that the affected officials have been referred to the PDP National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation, adding that they will cease to function in their respective positions during the suspension period.
“The NWC, in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution, reached the following resolutions: the National Legal Adviser, Mr. Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, have been suspended for one month and referred to the party’s Disciplinary Committee,” Ologunagba said.
He added that, in accordance with Section 36 (2) of the party’s constitution, the Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, will act as the National Secretary during the suspension period.
Similarly, the National Director of Legal Services, Jacob Otorkpa, has been directed to oversee the Legal Department.
The development comes a day after the Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the PDP’s planned national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025.
Party insiders say the suspension marks a new phase in the ongoing internal wrangling within the opposition party, which has struggled to maintain cohesion ahead of key political realignments across the country.
