The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing road construction by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
A statement signed by the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said that the outages, which will last from October 28 to November 16, 2025, will affect power supply to several districts of Abuja between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily.
According to the company, the road construction along the Kuje axis will interfere with the 132kV Gwagwalada–Kukwaba–Apo Double Circuit Transmission Line, making it necessary to temporarily interrupt electricity supply to ensure safety during the exercise.
“TCN will undertake a planned load management operation that will involve temporary interruption of power within the working hours for the road construction to ensure the safety of all stakeholders”, Mbah said.
The company explained that the outages would be carried out in three phases to minimise disruption. The first phase will run from October 28 to November 2, followed by the second phase from November 6 to 9, and the final phase from November 12 to 16.
Each phase will involve daily interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., except the last phase, which will end at 3:00 p.m.
Areas expected to be affected include Apo, Lokogoma, Guzape, Asokoro, Wuye, Utako, Jabi, and the Idu Industrial Layout. Normal power supply will, however, be restored to the affected communities at the end of each day’s work period.
TCN assured residents that the outage was a temporary measure aimed at facilitating the safe completion of critical infrastructure projects within the capital territory.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria regrets any inconvenience this may cause affected electricity consumers and appeals for their understanding to enhance infrastructure development within the FCT”, Mbah added.
The company also emphasised that the coordinated effort with the FCDA was part of broader initiatives to modernise both power and transport infrastructure across Abuja.
Residents and business owners in the affected areas have been advised to make alternative arrangements for power supply during the period to mitigate the impact of the outages on daily activities.
