Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have raided Proxy Nightclub, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, where a major drug party was underway in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025.
A statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said over 100 suspects, including the club’s owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, were arrested and taken into custody for screening.
The operation, which followed credible intelligence, saw NDLEA operatives storm the venue around 3 a.m., disrupting the ongoing party. Cartons of illicit substances, including Loud (a potent cannabis strain) and laughing gas, were reportedly recovered from the suspects and the club’s storage area.
According to the agency, the raid was part of intensified efforts to curb the growing trend of drug-fueled parties across Lagos.
NDLEA officers had earlier infiltrated the event on Saturday night, blending in with guests before executing the operation in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
In a related operation, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, intercepted 70 parcels of cocaine concealed within cocoa butter body cream containers.
The cocaine, weighing 3.6 kilograms, was discovered on October 14, 2025, during the examination of cargo packaged as personal effects bound for London on an Air Peace flight.
A cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, who presented the consignment for airfreight, was arrested immediately. Two principal suspects were later apprehended after a two-week investigation.
In a follow-up operation on October 18, a female healthcare worker, Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, was arrested, leading to the capture of Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, Chief Executive Officer of Mutiu Adebiyi & Co Travel Agency, at his Ikeja GRA office on October 20.
In another case, a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, was arrested at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, while attempting to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine concealed in a “Diabeta Herbs Coffee Tea” pack to the Philippines on October 22.
Across the country, NDLEA operatives also made several seizures.
In Kwara State, 40-year-old Umar Abubakar was arrested at Bode Saadu, Moro LGA, with 21,950 capsules of Tramadol 250mg hidden inside a 100-litre water heater on October 21.
In Taraba State, two suspects — Auwal Musa, 26, and Salihu Bala, 22 — were arrested at the Dan-Anacha checkpoint with 450,000 pills of Tramadol and Exol-5 concealed in a truck loaded with building materials from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Mubi, Adamawa State.
Similarly, operatives in Kogi State intercepted a truck conveying 162.2kg of skunk along the Okene-Lokoja highway on October 24, while officers in Nasarawa State seized 128kg of the same substance from a suspect, Abubakar Muhammad, 55, in Keffi on October 22.
In Lagos, a mother of two, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, described as a major distributor of Canadian and California Loud across Lekki, Ajah, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and VGC, was arrested on October 17 during a raid on her Lekki residence, where 500 grams of the illicit drugs were recovered.
At Solomade Estate, Ikorodu, NDLEA operatives recovered 275 litres of “skuchies” — a new psychoactive mix of blackcurrant drink, cannabis, and opioids — from the home of a suspect, Ogunyabo Adenigbigbe, on October 23.
In Abia State, a 75-year-old man, Echendu Onuoka, was arrested with 4.7kg of skunk at Ovum village, Obingwa LGA, while a 60-year-old woman, Aukana John, was caught with 225 grams of the same substance in Apanta village.
In Ondo State, NDLEA officers raided Lot Camp, Ikun Akoko, seizing 150kg of skunk. Two suspects, Bashir Mohammad, 50, and Samini Ahmed Tijjani, 35, were also nabbed with 234.5kg of cannabis in Kaduna State on October 24.
At the Seme border in Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested Jacob Ojugbele with 55kg of skunk at Ashipa, Badagry, while Amusa Oluwabukola was caught with 121.3 litres of skuchies at Itoga, Badagry.
In Zamfara State, officers on patrol along Gummi-Anka road on October 20 arrested 30-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim with an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 rounds of assorted ammunition destined for the Bagega forest in Anka LGA.
The suspect and exhibits have been handed over to appropriate security authorities.
The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign nationwide, holding sensitization lectures in schools, religious centres, workplaces, and communities across several states, including Oyo, Kebbi, Enugu, Benue, Taraba, Rivers, and Kano.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers for their coordinated efforts, stressing that the agency will continue to target both traffickers and users.
“The NDLEA remains committed to breaking the chain of illicit drug production, trafficking, and abuse in Nigeria. No individual or group will be spared in our nationwide campaign against drugs,” Marwa said.
