The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced a temporary suspension of routine updates on its official Facebook page following a lapse in U.S. government appropriations.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, the Mission explained that while normal posts would be paused, the platform would still be used to share urgent safety and security information when necessary.

It added that scheduled passport and visa services in the United States, as well as at embassies and consulates abroad, would continue “as the situation permits” during the funding shortfall.

“We will not update this account until full operations resume, except for urgent safety and security information. For details on our services and operating status, visit http://travel.state.gov,” the statement read.

The announcement comes amid the broader impact of the U.S. government funding lapse, which has disrupted activities across several departments and agencies both domestically and overseas.
