Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has appointed 1,200 political assistants to strengthen grassroots democracy and enhance civic engagement across the state.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the appointments were part of efforts to deepen democratic participation and broaden access to the dividends of democracy.
He explained that the aides, five from each of the 236 wards in the state, would help bridge the gap between the government and the people by articulating community needs and ensuring feedback flows in both directions.
“The political assistants are to support the delivery of democratic dividends, articulate the needs of their respective wards, and communicate these needs to the state government.
“They are also expected to provide accurate feedback from the government to the wards and vice versa,” Akinmade said.
He noted that the initiative fulfilled Governor Abiodun’s electoral promise to carry every ward along in his administration’s development programmes and to run an all-inclusive government that values citizens’ contributions in shaping policies.
The state government urged the appointees to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of their wards, local councils, and Ogun State at large.
