At least five farmers were gruesomely murdered by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday.
The insurgents were said to have ambushed the victims while they were working on their farms near Ngoshe, a remote community in southern Borno.
A resident who spoke with our correspondent said the victims were discovered in a pool of blood with their throats slit.
“Five precious lives were cut short. By mid-morning on Saturday, while innocent farmers were simply tilling their land for survival, suspected Boko Haram insurgents descended on them in cold blood,” the source lamented.
The victims have since been buried according to Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed at least 12 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in a series of “long-range offensive commando operations” carried out between August 29 and 30 in Borno.
According to a military source, the operation was supported by intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) from the air component.
Troops cleared Tamsu Ngamdu, Dalakaleri and Gaza of terrorist activities before engaging the insurgents in a heavy gun battle at Loskori Kura, where 12 were neutralised.
Recovered items included eight AK-47 rifles, eight magazines fully loaded with 7.62mm rounds, as well as assorted drugs and medical supplies.
