The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hassan Shado, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of Saturday’s bye-election for Okura State Constituency in Kogi
Announcing the results at the Egume Collation Centre, the Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Enenche Onome, disclosed that the APC candidate polled a total of 55,073 votes to emerge while the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) scored 1,038 and 445 votes respectively.
The election, however, witnessed low voter turnout, with some opposition parties raising concern over the credibility of the process.
The bye-election was conducted following the death of Enema Paul, the former lawmaker representing Okura State Constituency, which created a vacancy in the Kogi State House of Assembly.
Five political parties that participated in the bye-election included; Accord; Yakubu Ugbade, African Democratic Congres; Amps Ahiaba Amos, All Progressives Congress; Hassan Shado, Allied People’s Movement; Egene Joseph Ugbede and People’s Democratic Party; Meliga Godwin.
