Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday for the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM).
Alckmin, who was accompanied by his wife, Maria Lúcia Alckmin, landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where he was received by top Nigerian government officials.
According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to Nigeria’s Vice President, the Brazilian delegation was welcomed by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha; and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
Speaking at the airport, Hadejia described the visit as “a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” emphasising the strategic importance of deepening bilateral relations with Brazil.
He stated: “This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens.
“Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s transformation priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The visit marks a key milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic cooperation within the Global South and is expected to drive major policy breakthroughs across critical sectors including agriculture, energy, and industrial development.
The three-day summit is scheduled to conclude with the signing of more than 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy collaboration, and cultural exchange programmes—signaling the dawn of a new era in Nigeria-Brazil relations.
