Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has called on Nigerians to support the security forces as they work to restore peace in Benue State.
Speaking in the Yelewata Community following a series of attacks by suspected herders, General Musa outlined plans to prevent further incidents.
General Musa emphasised the crucial role of unity among the military, community stakeholders, traditional rulers, and clan leaders in combating insurgency, advocating for strategic change and increased collaboration with state governors to address the ongoing violence in various parts of the country.
He extended his condolences to the governor and the people of Benue for the recent tragic loss of life, emphasising that measures were already underway to enhance security in the wake of these attacks.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of personnel to reclaim extensive territories in Benue State that have fallen under the control of armed bandits.
This decision followed a meeting with Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, during the IGP’s visit to the state capital, Makurdi.
At the meeting, the IGP reiterated his condolences to the governor and the affected families, assuring that the police force is fully committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He also underscored the vital need for cooperation with state authorities to restore lasting peace. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has similarly affirmed his administration’s determination to curb criminal activities nationwide.
The IGP and Governor Alia reaffirmed their commitment to a collaborative approach to tackling the security challenges facing Benue State.
