A young spinster, Chisom Chukwu, has caught the leader of a suspected two-man phone-snatching syndicate, while fleeing after they robbed her of her M-Horse phone valued N14,500.00 and the sum of N5,000.00 under threat to shoot her in Abia.
She reacted immediately when she noticed that they had threatened her with an iron rod. She grabbed the leader and raised the alarm, which attracted a security man who arrested the other suspect. The victim was returning from work at about 14.25 along Obohia Road.
Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade who stated this when the state command of the Nigeria Police Force paraded 14 suspected criminals at its headquarters along Bende Road in Umuahia, the state capital added that upon their arrest by the Police at Ndiegoro Station, the said items were recovered from them.
According to him, another syndicate of four was arrested along Ohanku Road, Aba by a patrol team attached to the station, adding that they had all confessed to the crime.
Oyebade said the others are suspected of alleged possession of stolen items, firearms and ammunitions, suspected hard drugs, burglary, cultism, abduction, and car snatching among others.
Stating that the suspects will soon appear in courts, the commissioner solicited the support and cooperation of the general public in riding the society of all manners of criminals.
