Operatives of the Kano Command of the Nigeria Police have arrested 18-year-old Saudat Jibril, accused of killing her husband, 30-year-old Salisu Idris, barely nine days after their wedding in the Farawa community of the state.

A statement by the Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the suspect “allegedly cut off the throat of her husband, with a sharp knife”.

He said, “The victim was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section, and will be charged to court for the offence of culpable homicide.”

Although the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear, community members alleged that Saudat may have poisoned her husband before stabbing him during an argument.

Saudat’s marriage to Idris, which took place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, reportedly broke down on Tuesday, May 6.

According to reports, the marriage was arranged by relatives of the couple and lacked mutual affection between both parties. The deceased was said to have expressed reservations about the union. However, he was persuaded by family members to proceed with the marriage.

The Command assured the public of its commitment to conducting thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.
