The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Plateau State Chapter has urged the federal and state governments to urgently address the lingering hardship caused by fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate volatility and food insecurity to prevent violence from starving Nigerians.
The Tuesday protest witnessed total compliance as the nation wide protest first day on skyrocketed prices of foodstuffs and cost living in the country
Comrade Eugene Manji while addressing the union members at the NLC Secretariat round about in Jos, the Plateau State capital on Tuesday, lamented the challenge poor condition of service in Federal and state governments.
He charged government to cushion the effect of suffering by introducing means of tracking and solving the high rise in cost foodstuffs,transportation and fuel since the subsidy removal .
Eugene explained that the nation wide protest is practicality aimed at bringing the attention of the government to the plight that many Nigerians are undergoing and to find solution to the rising dollars and Naira exchange rate in the market .
Comrade Eugene reiterated that people can’t afford essential good’s and services owning to the volatility of the Naira/ dollar exchange rate and the problem affected the home product of items farm here in locally .
He cautioned government to take urgent measure towards tackling the problem before it results fuels insecurity which federal and state governments will be unable to control .
According to him, “the government come and rescue the situation before it escalate into crises ,we see that the exercise is so peaceful not like other states but we are appealing to the appropriate authority to take action.’
Eugene stated that the reason for controlling the number of workers that should come out is due to the recent attacks in Bokkos ,Mangu , Barkin-Ladi , “that is why we limited those that should come out.”
