Almost a year after she was shot dead on December 25, 2022, Lagos based lawyer, business coach and real estate developer, Bolanle Raheem got justice on Monday when the Lagos High Court handed down a verdict of death by hanging for the police officer who shot her dead, Drambi Vandi.
Vandi, an assistant superintendent of police, who was immediately suspended by the authorities stood accused of the murder of Raheem.
He had pleaded not guilty to the murder charges when brought before the Lagos State High Court at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) annex for a one-count charge of murder on Monday.
The tragic incident occurred on December 25 when 41 -year old Raheem Bolanle was shot dead in the Ajah area of Lagos by Vandi who was on a stop and search duty. The victim was returning home from a Christmas outing with her family when the horrifying shooting transpired. She was pregnant with twins.
This Christmas Day killing drew condemnation from Nigerians from across all strata of life, including the Nigeria Police Force, which immediately ordered an order room trial which led to his suspension.
