Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has called for collective efforts in the war against drugs abuse and trafficking.
The Deputy Governor, Otunba Moses Adeyemo, made the call on Thursday in Ibadan, the state capital, during the 2017 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
Adeyemo who represented the governor said strategic plans and actions must be developed to counter drug trafficking in the country and rid the state of drug abuse.
He appealed to the youths, parents and others to play their roles in checking the menace.
In a remark, the Oyo State Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mrs. Omolade Faboyede, said that problems of drugs abuse needed to be tackled by reducing the supply through enforcement.
Mrs Faboyede who urged parents and teachers to play a vital role in eradicating drug abuse said that behavior of children are mostly visible to them.
Speaking in theme of the day which was: “Listen First”, the NDLEA boss urged parents and teachers to listen to the children, saying children feel important when adults talk to them.
Also speaking, the Oyo State Chairperson of Association of Lady Pharmacists, Mrs. Adedoyin Oduntan, submitted that :”We need to take care of the children to guard against peer pressure. Drug drug abuse was the root cause of societal ills.”
