Rising from its Central Working Committee, CWC, held on Tuesday, July 25, at Abuja Labour House, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has issued notice of nationwide strike should the Federal Government fail to reverse all perceived anti-poor policies in seven days.
The Committee condemned the recent hike in the pump price of petrol from average N550 to N617 immediately after an earlier increase on June 3 from N149 to N550 as well as the proposed payment of N8,000 to 12 million households of five members each.
After failed negotiations with government amid a pending order by the National Industrial Court restraining the NLC and it’s ally, the Trade Union Congress, TUC, from embarking on strike, the NNPC went ahead to increase the fuel price of petrol with the government yet to start any form of palliative to address the cost of living crisis.
Consequently, the NLC, directed all its affiliates unions and state councils to immediately begin mobilization of workers for a long-lasting strike and mass protests should the government fail to meet its demands by August 2.
