
Mallam Dantiye
Former president of the Nigeria Guild Of Editors, Baba Halilu Dantiye, and 18 others have made the commissioners’ list for the Kano State Executive Council, following their nomination by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The governor who submitted,19 names to the state assembly for approval on Tuesday also included Ali Haruna Makoda, former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, elder brother of Maritala Garo, deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.
Speaker of the assembly, Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, read out the names contained in the governor’s letter during plenary on Tuesday after Lawal Hussaini Chediyar Yangurasa representing Dala, read a motion about the commissioners designate, which was seconded by Hon. Tukun Muhammad representing Fagge.
Thereupon the nominees were asked to appear before the house on Wednesday for screening.
Dantiye, former Permanent Secretary was elected General Secretary of the NGE in 2001 and later served two terms as President, from 2003 to 2008.
His tenure witnessed some radical changes in the Guild as it was during his tenure that the peer review All Nigeria Editors’ Conference, ANEC, was first held. With that recorded success, the forum was later included in the Guild’s Constitution as a mandatory annual event. He is a fellow of the Guild and a Member of the Order of the Niger recipient, MON.
