The Police Command in Abia State has warned labour employers in both formal and informal sectors in the state against engaging employees without obtaining certified personal data of such employees for documentation and reference.
At a news briefing in his office, at the command’s headquarters along Bende Road, Umuahia, the state capital, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Leye Oyebade said the data would assist the employers in accessing vital information about the employee.
Oyebade was speaking against the backdrop of criminal cases such as kidnapping, impersonation, forgery, burglary, duping, and armed robbery which insider sources such as domestic and personal staff had played critical roles in.
The commissioner said in ensuring crimes are nipped in the bud and the suspects are put in check, the command had within the period under review, recorded various achievements through implementation of different crime fighting strategies.
He announced the arrest of a fake soldier, one Okezie Chukwuebuka, who along with a lady and two other men allegedly robbed one Stephen Nwokoma of his Gionee M2 phone valued at N28, 000.00 along Uzuakoli Road.
Oyebade said the suspect, who had confessed being members of a gang that had been terrorizing the people and dispossessing them of their valuables were arrested by a combined effort of patrol team28PMF and the Central Police Station (CPS).
According to the CP, 18 criminal cases, out of which five suspects were paraded at the headquarters, were recorded during the period, adding that as investigation into some continues, prosecution of the others had commenced
Items recovered from the gang include two pairs of Army camouflage uniform, two Itel phones, N28, 000.00, UBA, Fidelity, Skye banks cheque leaves, and one Peace Corps ID belonging to one of them, one Nwadi Paul.
Others are two ATM cards each belonging to UBA and Diamond Banks respectively, two wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, four passport size photographs and one voter’s card belonging to the same Nwadi.
