A repentant armed robber, one Eziaha Joshua, 23 of Umuowa Ikpoku in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State has pleaded to be given a second chance, adding that he now wants to Bible School.
Joshua stated this when he was paraded along with four other suspected criminals at the headquarters of the Police Command in Abia State along Bende Road in Umuahia the Abia State capital on Thursday.
Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to Obehie Division arrested him and one Chibuike Onyeme, 19, for allegedly robbing one Miss Ezeude Chinasa of Benvick Filling Station, Obehie of over N86, 000.00 and other valuables.
Confessing that they were members of a three-man gang of which one is still at large, the repentant robber said he got N53, 000.00 out of the loot and their victims Itel phone valued at N180.000.00
Speaking to newsmen earlier in his office, the Commissioner, Lele Oyebade, presented a kidnap hostage, one Fred Osuya, a sales manager with Rainbow Feeds Ltd, Aba, who has been abducted by a notorious gang of kidnappers.
Oyebade said,” Consequent upon this, the Commander, Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad Aba (FSARS) swung into action and led a team of operatives to Umuokeonyi Village, Obingwa where the hostage was kept.”
The police-boss, who attributed the success of the operation to the gallantry of the squad and quick information about the abduction, solicited the cooperation of the general public in ridding the state of criminal elements.
He said with the latest apprehension of a notorious kidnapper, one Evans in Lagos and busting of other criminal gangs across the country, “it is very obvious that kidnapping will soon become unprofitable in the country.”
The commissioner said the command had been partnering with stakeholders in the state to ensure safety of lives and property in the state, adding that he had held such meeting with the financial institutions.
According to him other break-through recorded by the command in the last one week include arrest of a fake soldier, cultists, other armed robbery suspects, recovery of stolen vehicles, a tricycle, arms an ammunitions among others
