Following the decision of the Federal Government to stick to the inauguration announcement by President Ahmed Tinubu on the removal of petrol subsidy, the supervising company, Nigeri National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Limited, on Wednesday announced change of its pump price for premium motor spirit, known as petrol.
According to the new price list (see below), which was announced by the NNPC Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, the price of petrol has now be adjusted up from the average N189 per litre in Lagos and Abuja to N194 per liter in other states, to N500 in Lagos and southwestern and Southsouth states of Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom and N537 for Abuja and other North central States of Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara and Niger.
The North-west states of Kano, Kaduna, Katisna, Sokoto, Jigawa, Zamfara and Kebbi will pay N540 up from N194, while the Northeastern states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe and Taraba.
The Southeastern states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo would go with N515 to N520 up from N184 and N189.

A random check by reporters shows that since NNPC as the sole supplier of petrol in the country has changed the different pump price for different geo-political zones, the stations have correspondingly adjusted their pump price.
Kyari had said at a press conference in support of the government’s decision that the company cannot bear the burden of the subsidy regime, which has gulped almost $10 billion yearly.
