Rising from a crucial meeting on Monday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced the suspension of collation of results in Abia and Enugu states.
According to the Commission, thuggery, invasion of its offices which led to the abduction of some of its officials were the reasons for the suspension.
National Commissioner and Chairman of Voter Education and Education Committee, Barr. Festus Okoye, said the Commission took the steps to suspend collation of results in the two states because, “our office in Obingwa Local Government area was invaded by thugs on Sunday, March 19, 2023 and our officials held hostage in relation to collation of results from the local government area. Similarly reports from Enugu State call for a review of the results of the governorship election from the two outstanding local governments areas of Nsukka and Nkanu East.
Consequently, the Commission hereby suspends the collation of results in Obingwa Local government area of Abia State and the two outstanding local government area of Enugu State which are yet to be collated. A review will be undertaken immediately before the process is concluded.”
