Nasarawa State has joined the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, as the latest to cave into threats of terrorists to invade states across Nigeria.
The state Ministry of Education in a statement on Wednesday by Commissioner of Education, Hajiya Fatu Jimaita Sabo ordered the closure of schools in the state, “following recurring incidences of security breaches and threats in parts of the country including neighbouring states.”
Following the forced closure of Federal Government College in Bwari by the Ministry of Education on Monday on the heels of terrorist attack on the Presidential Brigade Guards on Sunday in which three army officers were killed and several others declared missing, states, particularly those bordering Abuja are reordering their security priorities.
According to Hajiya Sabo, the governor, Abdullahi Sule handed down the order for the closure of both public and private schools in the state as a precautionary measure. Principals of secondary schools and Headmasters/Mistresses of primary schools were directed to release their students and pupils to their parents or guardians immediately. The governors also directed that final years students writing NECO Examinations should be provided with security to enable them seat for their exams.
