About 100 gunmen on Sunday invaded Kukawa and Gyambawu communities of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau leaving several people dead and many sustaining various degrees of injuries.
The communities are border settlement between Bauchi ,Gombe with tick forest connecting Sambisa forest in Borno State.
The bandits who penetrated through the forest linking Yakari Game Reserve in the afternoon started shooting sporadically and attacking the communities.
According to residents ,the whole of Kukawa settlement was under siege for many hours, forcing many to refuge in the surrounding forest
Information revealed that several persons have been feared killed.
Residents of the affected villages told newsmen on Sunday that they don’t know where the invaders came from.
Adam Musa, a resident of Kukawa village who confirmed the incident said the attack started at I a:m said that many were injured while hundreds of people fled their homes, adding that security personnel are yet to reach the villages.
Musa said, the gunmen in separate invaded the villages started shooting sporadically, before setting many houses ablaze.
Meanwhile, another plot by suspected gunmen’s to invade correctional centre was foiled by the security agencies in Jos on Sunday, causing confusion and tension .
However, the security agencies barricade all the entrances of the state command and prison headquarters to avert further jailbreak in Jos prison .
Addressing the failed attack, Police Command in the state said it has adopted a new security strategy in line with our normal routine patrol and check and “urged everyone to go about their legitimate business without fear.
The Spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Ubah Gabriel, promised to get back to our correspondent when contacted on the development about the attack at the communities. Repeated call yielded no reply as at the time of going to press.
