The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday morning transferred ex-Anambra governor, Willie Obiano and wife from Lagos to Abuja office for further interrogation.
Denying reports that of the release of the former governor who was arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala International Airport enroute the United States with his wife, Ebelechuckwu, Mr Wilson Uwujiaren told THISAGE that “the story is untrue. The Governor is still being held.”
Earlier reports of the Obianos release was based on mere conjecture because they seen leaving EFCC Lagos office on Friday morning whereas they were embarking on their journey to Abuja for further interrogation.
The EFCC on Thursday arrested the immediate the who had been on the watch list of the commission. After handing over to his successor, Governor Charles Soludo on Thursday morning, the governor and his wife had wanted to travel to the U.S.A, when he was nabbed by Nigeria Immigration Service, which had been alerted in an EFCC letter dated November 15, 2021, to place Obiano on a watch list and inform it anytime he is travelling out of the country from any of the International airports and other points of entry and exit.
Acting on the authority of that letter, the immigration officers were said to have sighted the former first Anambra couple at 8.30pm and quickly alerted the EFCC who arrested him and took him to their Lagos office.
