President Muhammadu Buhari has approved $8.5m to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Humanitarian, Disaster Management and Social Development for the airlifting of over 5,000 Nigerians stranded in the war-torn Ukraine.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada disclosed this information to State House Correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday after Federal Executive Council meeting.
He said that three aircraft would be dispatched to four countries where many of the stranded Nigerians are currently seeking refuge. Poland, Romania and Hungary have been identified as countries that many Nigerians have found refuge since the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine last week.
In the meantime, AirPeace, Max Air have already been notified as advance airlines to bring the Nigerians back home. Both airlines are expected to bring 1,300 Nigerians between them on Wednesday.
