Dr. Abdulffatai Buhari, the legislator representing Oyo North senatorial district at the National Assembly, has expressed support for workers agitation for increased wage.
Senator Buhari who is the chairman Senate committee on ICT(Information and Communication Technology) and Cybercrime in a message to the workers on workers’ day said the quest for new minimum wage is long overdue.
He expressed optimism that the executive arm of government would do the needful as soon as possible.
While felicitating with the workers, the Senator enjoined them not to relent in the contributions to the growth of the nation and their respective states.
According to him “Nigerian workers deserve to be commended for their doggedness and immense contributions to the advancement of Nigeria as a country and it is on this note that I am joining them on this memorable day.
At the celebration, which took place at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, labor leaders re-echoed their demand for improved welfare packages and increase wage was not left out.
State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo, told journalists that local government workers were owed between five and 11-month salaries just as the state Chairman of Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) Comrade Waheed Olojede urged workers not to relent in their struggle for improved welfare packages, saying all their demand must be met.
In an address, the state Deputy Governor, Otunba Moses Adeyemo, lauded the workers for their endurance in the challenging times ad assured them that government would address their demands.
