Women scavenging for water in abandoned boreholes
The perennial water scarcity among the communities of Yola, Takdan and Gumshar communities of Wase Local Government Council of Plateau State,has inflicted hardship on the people as they now trek 25 km in search of portable from streams for family consumption.
They express concern and grieve over the lack of portable water during the dry season in their and appealed to the government to come to their rescue.
The village head of Gumshar, Malam Dauda who disclosed this during an interview with our reporter at his palace, said that many of the boreholes dug by contractors in his and other neighbpuring communities were unused because they were poorly serviced.
He said ” the areas are blessed with available water underneath but the contractors mostly dug 30 to 50 metres instead of 150 metres. We are in dire need of intervention in the many projects especially in the area of water.
The village head add that his community and the neighboring communities are doing their best to provide their own wells but would need support in terms of funding.
He reveal that currently they are using same water with their animals in the areas.
Dauda urged the government to come to their rescue and provide them with good water in the communities as water is life. Attempts to get Local Government officials proved abortive as none agreed to speak on the issue.
