From Ada Nebolise, Awka
Commissioner for Land and Urban Development in Enugu State, Mr Victor Chukwuwmwka Nnam has resigned over allegations of high-handedness of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The Commission, who is a surveyor, in his letter of resignation dated October 29, 2021 accused the governor of frustrating him from operating a new template on best practices on land regulation, acquisition and development in the state. Officials of the ministry, the commissioner, alleged were removed for cooperating to implement the policy on land regulation that would have removed ‘land grabbers’ from operating freely to the detriment of the new policy designed to restore investors confidence in land matters in the state.
Nnam who said upon his appointment in October 2019, he “immediately proposed the establishment of a GIS land administration system to enable the ministry stamp out land grabbers and create investor’s confidence in the land system, which was rejected without explanation till date.”

The letter of resignation
“However, the reason for my resignation is the removal of professional heads under me on punitive grounds for simply doing their jobs diligently. My conscience will no longer allow me to serve your administration while those senior professional civil servants are punished for doing the right thing.”
