A High Court in Abuja has granted an order restraining the Deputy Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Amarachi Iwuanyanwu, from selling a property in Gwarinpa, Abuja, to another party.
The said property was rented by Mr Iwuanyanwu in 2012, to carry out pastries business under the name Shirleys Confectionery.
The media aide to the owners of the property, Apekhena family, told newsmen in Abuja that the embattled Imo law maker allegedly sold the property to another fast food vendor in Abuja for an undisclosed sum running into millions of Naira.
The media aide to the family explained that the tenant was unable to pay his rentage for several years and begged that he now wanted to buy the property in 2014.
He said; “Mr Iwuanyanwu failed to meet up with the payment as he deposited ten million Naira, which was used to clear backlog of rent owed.
“The bubble burst when the new buyer now demanded for the document of the property, which Mr Amarachi failed to produce”
It was later discovered by the property owner that Mr Amarachi Iwuanyanwu sold the property in which he was a tenant to another party in June, 2021.
The Apekhena family has no option than to take the matter to court for redress and damages paid.
“We have no option than to approach the high court to stop this illegality and fraudulent acts in order to take back possession of the property”
Several efforts made to reach the embattled Imo law maker for comments, proved abortive.
Meanwhile, ongoing construction work by the purported new occupant, has stopped after the court order.
