Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike was not properly informed about the outcome of the conduct of last year’s ward congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State.
Caucus and stakeholders of the party in Ikwuano local government of the state led by Rear Admiral Ralph Osondu (Rtd) said this at a press conference in Umuahia, the capital.
They were reacting to Wike’s allegation that the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Col Austin Akobundu (Rtd) denied a House of Representatives member opportunity to nominate officers for his ward for the congress.
“From his statement, he appeared to be confused on which ward Akobundu prevented a Federal House member from producing his ward exco. To show how uninformed he was, he could not ascertain whether the member was still in PDP or not,” they said.
They noted that if the governor was referring to Hon Sam Onuigbo of Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency who they said left the party not because of the congress, but his personal ambition, then he was not properly informed.
“Surprisingly, at the local government area level, Onuigbo held a parallel congress which was rejected by the party. He subsequently dragged the party to court and lost. He never appealed the judgment of the honorable justice.”
