Front runner in the race for the Attah Igala stool, Prince Onuche Gabriel Opaluwa has called on the people and the king markers in Igala Kingdom to follow the laid down procedure for the selection of the successor to the throne, adding that any error in the selection process would have negative impact on the kingdom for years to come.
Opaluwa in a statement in Lokoja over the weekend said the world is keenly watching how the new Attah will emerge from among the contestants for the stool, which became vacant following the death of Idakwo Michael Ameh Oboni, four months ago.
Opaluwa who is an elder brother by tradition to the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Yahaya Bello , Prince Okoliko Opaluwa who is also in race, said the selection must be done according to the tradition of the kingdom and the laid down rules.
He said ” I am the bonafide heir to the throne of Attah Igala and I shall abide by the ethics and regulations of the Igala Area Traditional Council as well as the modified Native and Custom order of the Traditional Council in Kogi State.
“I shall implore all necessary impetus to make Igala Kingdom great both in and in the committee of nations.”
Speaking on the suitability of all the contestants, Opaluwa said he joined in the race for the vacant stool to claim what rightly belongs to him and not to engage in a fight with anyone as he sees the contest as a family affair.
Prince Onuche Opaluwa is the son of late Ejeh of Ofu Local Government Area, Peter Edebo Opaluwa who hailed from Aju Ameacho ruling dynasty, next in line to produce the new Attah Igala,
He said The Aju Ameacho Dynasty has stayed over 101 years without producing the Attah and appealed to the government, the Kingmakers and other relevant stakeholders to consider him as the bonafide heir to throne and install him since the tradition and customs of the land favours him.
Tongues have started to wag over the suspicion that Prince Okoliko Opaluwa, Senior Special Assistant to the governor may be banking of his closeness to the corridors of power to spring surprises.
