Hundreds of Plateau youths who are desperate and ready to loot are on the major streets of Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas, vandalizing shops and invading business and residential areas, including the resident of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives ,Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara at Lamingo road .
The looters are trekking long distances on the major streets in search of storehouses. Some have barricaded main roads while looking out for where to scavenge for food. They are on the move once they received information about any of the warehouses in town stored with palliatives.
Between 5:am and 7:am, today, Sunday, the rampaging youths completely vandalized the Plateau Agriculture Development Project building, PADP, having barricaded routes to the building before beginning with the looting .
Its was authoritatively confirmed that the ex- Nigerian House of Reps Speaker Yakubu Dogara’s
house located near Jos University Teaching Hospital in Jos, the state capital of Plateau State, was broken into by looters at about 9am, Nigerian time.
According to an eye-witness; “They broke into the house, attacked everyone including Dogara’s brother and are currently moving anything they see stored in the house.”
The invaders are said to be moving tricycles, furnitures, electronics and other valuables out of
the house.
However the Plateau Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force has deployed its officers to the streets. Police personnel were seen all over the streets, trying to control the mob. But they seem to be beyond control as they shout in waves of excitement over their loot.
Gov Simon Lalong of Plateau, had on Saturday reinstated the 24-hour curfew in Jos South and Jos North Local Government Areas, effective from 4p.m on till further notice.
Lalong first imposed a 24-hour curfew on Tuesday, October 20, but relaxed it on Friday, October 23, after a meeting with critical stakeholders in the state.
Lalong, however, reinstated the lockdown in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Jos, following attacks on some warehouses in the state.
