Chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE in Plateau State, Comrade Samson Mafuyai has described the death of the National president Comrade Khaleel Ibrahim as a great loss to the union considering his commitment to the struggle for Local government autonomy in the country.
Khaleel who died on Wednesday was buried on Thursday in Kano state according to Islamic rites.
In an interview with our correspondent at the Bitrus Rwang Pam stadium on Monday, Mufiyai described how shocked he was when he heard the late Khallel slumped and died as he never knew him to have had a history of illness.
“The sad news of his dead destabilized all of us. But we are consoled that the deceased who was the national treasurer of the Nigerian Labour was a loyal and dedicated member with a lot of meaningful programme he outlined for the benefited the union.
Comrade Samson Mafuyai pointed out that the late , Khaleel passed away as at the time his services was needed most in Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees and the country at large.
He prayed that God grant the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss. He also prayed that Allah grants Khaleel Al-Janatul Fridaus (the highest return).
On the issue of minimum wage, we have been led by our negotiating council is not an individual union of a thing. The NLC Chairman in Plateau state has made it public that the state government will start the payment of minimum wage from October salary.
He employed the new President, Comrade Labbo to ensure that the struggle for local Government autonomy should not die. He said the attention of the governmentt should be drawn to ensure all civil servants in the all tiers of government benefit.
He urged all LG workers to overwhelmingly support the Comrade Labbo led administration to succeed.
“This can be done by given him the necessary cooperation for him to achieve success,” he said, adding.
“ We don’t want his legacy projects be abandoned across the 774 LGAs in the country especially his struggle for LGCs autonomy.
He called on all members to remain resolute especially in a period when the Union is facing challenges.
Comrade Samson Mafuyai advised the new president Comrade Labo to ensure that programs outlined by the late Ibrahim Khaleel are continued and followed to a logical conclusion.
