An All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant for Ohafia local government council, Chief Kalu Mba Nwoke (Etiokwe) has said that he is coming to serve the interest of the entire people of the area and not that of few individuals.
“In a time like now, the area needs a committed leader to move it forward. A leader who will be able to harness its potentials as an agrarian and semi-urban area to change the lives of the people positively. I will make such a leader,”he said.
Kalu stated this when he spoke to newsmen after obtaining the party’s nomination form for the election in Umuahia, the state capital, adding that he has the capacity to turn around the fortunes of the area within the shortest possible period.
He regretted that under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the area has not been able to move forward in development, insisting that the area with all available natural and human resources has remained a shadow of what it should be.
According to the former councillor representing Ohafor Ward 1(Asaga Ukwu) in Ohafia legislative council, if elected in the December 19 election, he will dwell more on both infrastructure development and quality social services delivery.
“Without being seen as blowing my own trumpet, I make bold to say that I was able to move my ward forward from where I met it. I also touched the lives of the people both individually and collectively. You may need to visit there.”
He argued that the previous administrations did fail because of lack of resources, but because of misplaced priorities, “The council’s monthly allocation from the federation account if properly managed will make the required difference.”
Kalu, who was also the deputy leader of the council, noted that he is aware of the practice whereby the party in power in states sweeps the poll in such election and has asked the people to ensure they voted and as well protect their votes.
The aspirant, who said he is sure of scaling through for the contest stressed that in this regard, the electoral umpire, the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) must be above board in the conduct of the election.
“This also brings to focus the person of the chairman the commission, Prof Mkoa Agu Mkpa. As a distinguished and reputable educationists, he must know and have it at the back of his mind that his integrity is also at stake. Nigerians are watching.”
