Few days after the Justice Isa Aliyu-led Commission of Inquiry into the killings in the Kajuru LG in Southern Kaduna, submitted its report to Governor Nasir el-Rufai, gunmen invaded the local government, killing three persons and wounding many during sporadic shooting that followed their attack. They escaped with abducted victims.
The attack which took place in three other LGs, namely Kajuru, Chikun, Giwa, Kauru, and Igabi, happened in the early hours of Sunday morning with Adara community in Buda ward of Kajuru LGA suffering the heaviest casualty from the attack by suspected Fulani militia.
In the other local governments, the gunmen reportedly killed four persons, while some other residents have been declared missing.
The National President of the Adara Development Association, Awemi Dio Maisamari, who reportedly confirmed the attack, said the attack from “suspected Fulani militia”, was “premeditated and unprovoked attack”, which, “claimed the lives of three people namely Rev. Alubara Audu, 45, with five children; Adamu Tata, 40, with four children and Ishaku Peter, 37, with five children. Furthermore, the following persons were abducted – Sani Peter, 25 and Esther Sani Peter, 20.
“At around the same time, the terrorists also abducted five people from neighboring Kemara Rimi community of Buda Ward. They are Ojo Aminu, 35, Danfulani Makaranta, 37, Namiji Gwamna, 36. Ali Musa, 36 and Grace Mathew, 16.”
In its reaction, the Kaduna state government condemned the attack as barbaric and vowed to sustain the peace talks that it had commenced in its bid to stop the lingering blood letting in Southern Kaduna.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, on Sunday, in a statement onSunday, said the Governor received briefs on the situations in Kidandan, Rigachikun, Kuyanbana, Buruku general area, and also Buda, within the five LGAs listed, and condoled with families who lost their loved ones in the attacks.
While he condemned the attacks, he said; “This criminality is an attack on our unity and collective well-being. Government condoles with the families that lost their loved ones to the sheer criminality of the bandits. Security agencies have been directed to double up and intensify operations against bandits and raids on their hideouts.”
