
A bell 206 Helicopter belonging to Quorum Aviation from Port Harcourt on Friday morning crashed into a residential building in Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos. The choper’s pilot and one other passenger died on the spot while the captain is in intensive care at the Lagos State University Teaching hospital, LASUTH.
Confirming development surrounding the accident to reporters, Lagos State official of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Familoni said the accident happened at 11:30 am and two persons so far had been confirmed dead while a third is in intensive care unit of a hospital.”
Apart from the wall of a fence and a car which were destroyed in the accident, showing the pilot tried to avoid plunging directly into houses in the crowded residential area, wreckage of the aircraft litter the scene of the accident.
In his remarks to journalists, commissioner police in Lagos State, Mr Hakeem Odumosu said all the responders are at the site of the accident. They included official of Aviation Investigation Bureau, AIB, the National Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, fire service and state and federal official of emergency management agencies.
Meanwhile aviation authorities have recovered the blackbox of the fatal aircraft which will assist them determine the remote and immediate cause of the accident,
