The Abuja-Kaduna rail has resumed operations on Wednesday, July 29, with a high traffic of passengers after about five month break, due to covid-19 lock down which affected all sectors of the economy.
The Nigerian Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, who officially disclosed the resumption of operation of the Abuja- Kaduna rail transit on the Tuesday during the test run of 10 new coaches and two locomotives at the Abuja- Kaduna railway axis, revealed that the establishment is being pressured to resume the railway service before Sallah.
The minister also disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the reviewed fares as N3000 for economy, N5000 for business class and N6000 for first class respectively, as against the proposed higher fare.
On whether the fare is not too high, Mr Amaechi said the price is affordable as most people are of the opinion that its nothing compared to the risk of kidnappers on the highway.
At the Tuesday briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Amaechi had warned passenger to come with their sanitisers and facemask of they would be prevented from boarding, adding that policemen would be around and within the train to enforce the measure.
