Some members of the state executive council of Ebonyi state have tested for coronavirus, forcing Governor David Umahi to order that government house be shut down from Thursday until June 10.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation Uchenna Orji who disclosed this information in Abakaliki on Thursday, said some officials of government were found to be positive for the virus when samples of 3,000 samples were received by the government, bringing the number of cases in the state to 75.

The Commissioner who did not disclosed the number of the officials infected, said the governor was alarmed at the development and directed that steps be taken to suspend all government offices and contain the spread of the disease, particularly at the Ministry of Finance and Budget. He said the officials were responding to treatment.

Workers from the two Ministries, he further stated, have been directed to go into self-isolation, while civil servants should work from home until June 10 when they are expected to resume for duties.
