L-R: The Secretariat under lock and key and supervision of soldiers and Party Acting Committee members,  Akims Mamot James, PRO, Eng Godwin Bedir, Secretary and Women Leader, Mrs Asabe Dareng, after addressing the press on the incident on Friday

Factions of the People Democratic Party, PDP, battling for control the affairs of party in the state clashed at the party secretariat in Jos, the state capital, in the early hours of Friday morning.

Our correspondent who arrived the scene of the incident learnt that some thugs believed to be loyal to both factions besieged the secretariat when a member of the acting executive committee whose tenure had expired, Emmanuel Tuwan, was sighted there.

The committee secretary of the caretaker committee, Engr Godwin Bedir told journalists at the state secretariat that the exercise became necessary because the members of the Acting Exco whose tenure had expired were still occupying their individual offices which is against the decision taken by the the Board of Trustees, BOT, of the party in the state.

He said the “BOT had already deliberated on the lingering crisis in the state and came up with a list of credibly politicians who were directed to maintain neutrality in order ground to do justice to our lingering crisis.”

Bedir explained further the list of authentic members who are to conduct the state congress has already been forward to the party National Secretariat in Abuja.

He added that “as we all know the tenure of Plateau state PDP exco led by Hon Gwot Chocho have since elapse on the midnight of Sunday May 10, in line with section 47(1) of the party constitution 2017 as amended where as the out gone exco after a tenure of four year in office have served a tenure of four years. Upon the expiration their tenure suspension of party activities was effected based on the directives of the National Working Committee of our their great party

The Board of Trustee, BOT, of the state chapter recently constituted a care taker committee chaired by Hon Nandom Penal, with Hon Engr Godwin W. Bedir as Secretary, Hon Akims Mamot James as PRO, Hon Mrs Asabe Dareng as Women Leader, Nathaniel Dakas, Hon Elder Jacob Dashe ,Member and Alh Kabiru Musa as members.

It is difficult to say when the years long crisis will end because the faction led by former Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ibrahim Nasiru Mantu , Senator Jeremiah Timbut Useni ,Hon Damishi Sango have since dislodged the group led by Senate Jonah David Jang ,Hon Beni Dauahep Lar , Hon Musa Bagos group.

It was gathered that the faction loyal to former Governor Jonah David Jang lost out with the inauguration of the caretaker committee mandated to conduct the state congress that could usher in new executive committee for the party. The implication is that he may gradually loose grip of his supporters in the state. No member of the camp was ready to talked on the issue.
