After weeks of unmitigated suffering encountered by candidates at the registration offices of the National Identification Number, NIM, across the country, The Joint and Matriculation and Matriculation Board, JAMB finally succumbed to accompanying public criticisms and announced the suspension of the use of the NIM for registration for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
JAMB boss, Professor Ishaq Oloyede made the announcement at a news briefing in Abuja on Saturday. He said the decision to about the NIM pre-qualification condition came on the heels of hardship encountered by candidates with the National Identity Management Commission NIMC, for NIM.
Following reportedly proven allegations of shoddiness and bribery by its officials, the NIMC had reacted by announcing Saturday solely for the registration of candidates at its centers nationwide.
Oloyede said at the press briefing that following the hardship, candidates can now go ahead and register without NIN for 2020 registration only.
He put the 2021 candidates on notice that the condition would be implemented nest year.
