The Nigeria Customs Service has appealed to Nigerians aggrieved by their mode of operation to seek redress in the law courts rather than resort to violence.
The appeal is coming on the heels of an attack by bandits that led to the death of two officers and injury of another in the Niger/Kogi operations of the Service last week.
In the attack by armed bandits along the Lokoja-Okene road, two officers, Assistant Superintendent, S Ohiremen and SM Omale were shot dead, while a Deputy Superintendent, H Oladapo, who sustained injury was taken for treatment in the Federal Medical Center, Lokoja.
“Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service are only implementers of Federal Government Policies, hence we urge every Nigerian citizen aggrieved toward losing his/her goods to engage the services of the Court rather than resort to violence and killing of family men whom are the bread winners of their families while serving their Nation”, said Lomba Benjamin, Public Relation Officer of the Command.
He pledged the continued commitment of the Command to its duty while mourning the readiness of the Service to work with other sister agencies in identifying the armed bandits in connection to the “attack on our officers and anyone found guilty will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
ASC II Omale was buried on Friday, December, 13 according to Islamic rights in Ayamba village of Kogi State, while ASC I Ohiremen would be buried at his home town in Ondo State in January 2020.
Customs Area Controller, Abba-Kassim Yusuf, paid a condolence visit to the wife, children and families of the deceased during the weekend.
