The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL) full accreditation to run 29 new programmes.
The courses cut across studies in Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Management Sciences and Administration.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Angela Freeman Miri disclosed this at Pre-Convocation Press conference held at the institution on Monday.
The Vice Chancellor told journalists that the NUC also granted approval for the University to commence postgraduate programmes in all existing courses at the institution.
Professor Miri also disclosed that in addition to the conventional degree and post-graduate courses, the University has been able to come up with a Consultancy Remedial Programme conceived to ensure that candidates with deficiencies in some of their O/L qualifications have the opportunity to remedy them.
She equally hinted that the University has concluded arrangement to run both certificate and diploma programmes under its Consultancy Services to boost middle manpower development in Nigeria.
On her achievements since assumption of office, the Vice Chancellor said that the University through the 3rd fund Special Intervention has been able to carry out numerous physical developments such as provision of Ultramodern Laboratory, construction/rehabilitation of classroom/ administrative blocks, drainages/construction of gate house at the permanent site, remodelling/expansion of health facilities and a befitting Library complex among others.
According to the VC “We are mindful of our staff welfare. They have enjoyed their promotions as at when due. They have also been provided with enabling atmosphere that would enhance their productivity. We have maintained steady academic calendar to ensure that students graduate at the stipulated period of studies. We have maintained cordial relationship with the host communities to ensure that peace reign supreme as well as partnering with host communities for the development of the University”
On employment of both academic and none academic staff, the Vice Chancellor said that the University authorities had always ensured standard where due process was strictly followed.
Professor Miri said she had adopted the right path in all employments carried under her administration where the Governing Council will first give approval, advert placed to that effect, interviews conducted before the Federal Character Commission will finally issue Certificate of Compliance.
She announced that the grand finale of the combined 3rd and 4th Convocation ceremony of the University comes up next Saturday, the 14th of this month at the Permanent Site in Felele, Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.
