The National President, Jonde Jam Fulani Youths Association of Nigeria, Alh Saidu Maikano Adamu has tasked Governor Simon Lalong to emulate the inclusive educational policy of his late predecessor, Solomon Daushep Lar to tackle conflicts among the warring communities in the state.
Speaking on the occasion of the country’s 59th Independence anniversary in Jos, the Plateau State capital, Adamu said the late Lar established 126 schools for nomadic education in the old Plateau state that comprised the current Nasarawa state, “but Lalong who claims to love the Fulani herdsmen has no listening ears to their plight”
Addressing journalists at his residence in Mista Ali, Bassa Local Government Council on Tuesday, Alh Adamu said “late Lar brought nomadic education which kick started officially in November, 1986 after the Yola National Workshop held on Fulani education.
“We urge the federal government to as a matter of urgency come to the rescue of nomadic education in Plateau state as Governor Simon Lalong has failed the Fulani completely in spite of the overwhelming support they gave him in his first and second period of electioneering campaign” he said.
According to him, during the administration of the National Peoples Party under Solomon Lar, the Fulani herdsmen in Plateau state had Nomadic schools with teachers and training facilities. “We are calling on Lalong to replicate the same gesture in restoring the integrity of Fulani speaking natives”, he said.
He disclosed that Lar also set up a committee to find lasting solution to the outbreak of cow diseases that raved the herd in the state then, resulting in the use of helicopters to spread chemical that reduced the disease.”
“They said Governor Lalong is claiming that peace has returned to Plateau state and he even claimed that the National Livestock programme is going to be successful in the troubled places in Wase, Kanam LGAs, yet concrete steps are not being taken to achieve the peace.
“We don’t have any single appointment in his administration since his administration came on board. There is no attempt to solve the fight between Muslims over the land grabbing system.”
He called on the state government to resolve the controversial issue of indigene /settler, saying, “if we can’t remove the issue of indigene and settlers, we can’t see peace.”
