Former Nigerian internationals have made case for the provision of sporting facilities, especially track and fields in newly developed residential areas as a way of fast-tracking the development of sports in the country.
The sport personalities, the boxing champion ,Bash Alli, sprinter Mary Onyali and former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai gave the advice in their separate remarks while been unveiled as sports ambassadors of Adron Games 2019.
The event, themed “Festivals of Fitness”, and organized by the popular property management company, Adron homes at the University of Ibadan New Stadium, UI, was graced by other notable sports personalities including Ike Shorunmu, Aishat Falode, a Mutiu Adepoju, Ajibade, Babalade among others.
The official torch of the game was lighted at the venue to officially signify Ibadan as the host venue of the games slated for October 11-13.
Earlier, Adron Homes and Property Group Managing Director, Aare Adetola Emmanuelking said the games was an annual fitness and bonding initiative aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical fitness among the company’s workforce.
He said, the organization, “Created the games to cement friendship and unity among and within the corporate organisation and our nation.
“The last three editions were held in Lagos, but now the games is going through different states hence the venue Oyo State for this years edition.
“The value and effect of playing sport is bountiful, so we want to get more people being physically active and safely from a young age. Adron as a corporate socially responsible organisation is convinced that sports and physical activity are essential to the enhancement of well being and the building of a virile and healthy working environment.
Some of the games to be featured at this year’s event include, cycling, football, table tennis, shot put, volley ball, long jump, among others
