A group of syndicate which specialises in the illegal printing of counterfeit notes in N1,000 denominations have been arrested by the police in Plateau State.
The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police which arrested two men with thirty (30) bundles and fourteen (14) half bundles of one thousand naira (N 1,000) denomination, said the money is already in circulation in the state and warned the public to be guarded.
Commissioner of Police, CP Isaac Akinmoyede made this revelation during the public parade of members of the alleged syndicate in Jos, the state capital on Friday.
He stated the men behind the act are Isa Ibrahim 30yrs ‘m’ of Mayobelwa, Adamawa State and one Danjuma Yilbis ,38yrs ‘m’ of Ron, Bokkos LGA, Plateau State .
He said the two suspects are involved in a case of unlawful possession of counterfeit currency, adding that on August 30 at about 3pm, while acting on a reliable and timely intelligence, detectives of the Command swung into action and apprehended the ring leaders of the syndicate.
He also said the Command has apprehended Four (4) suspects in a case of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and receipt of stolen property.
Other cases, according to the Commissioner, are those involving three arrested suspects in a case of criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and armed robbery and trafficking in persons allegedly involving Voice for the Girl Child Foundation.
“Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) of the division upon investigation discovered that the child was sold to one Christiana Ochuba ‘f‘ age 32 yrs of Bright Way area of Rukuba Road, Jos. Police meticulous investigation led to the arrest of the following:1. Rose Adams 25 yrs 2. Mildred Bakwo 34 yrs 3. Lisa Yelkopba 35 yrs 4. Fatima Abdul 20 yrs 5. Christiana Ochuba 32 yrs. All the suspects are female. “
He said the suspects have confessed to the commission of the crime and they will be charged to court according to their involvements in the illegal trade.
Meanwhile, the Police in the state have mounted a manhunt for masquerades allegedly behind the killing of one Nden Gungnim in Wase Local Government.
The Police accused the masquerades of harassing children and attacking their parents on the allegations of witchcraft.
10 Tarok speaking natives were paraded on Friday at State Command headquarters for allegedly carrying out the killings on the instruction of the masquerades.
The CP Isaac Akinmoyede disclosed during a press briefing at the command headquarters that those arrested in connection with the killing Domven Zwalchir, 75 yrs, Singtak Dangnap ,50 yrs, Gilmak Jamda, 45yrs, Timchang Gungtim, 38yrs, Selkap Danjuma, 36yrs, Takjina Kuman ,80yrs, Gwakzing Seljum, 33yrs, Nimdip Zwalbin, 50yrs, Nantim Jamda 46yrs and, Danjuma Fankur 70yrs all male.
Akinmoyede told media that they conspired, arrest and took one Nden Gungnim ‘m’ aged 35yrs whom they accused of being a wizard to a forest and killed him.
He said: “The deceased (Nden Gungnim) was tortured, killed and was buried in the shallow grave there. On received the report, the command deployed detectives who immediately swung into action by arresting the above suspects who have confessed to the commission of the crime.
He added that the detectives took the suspects to the scene of crime where the body of the deceased was exhumed and taken to the Langtang General Hospital for autopsy.
According to him, the action of the suspects is barbaric, dastardly and repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience.
Akinmoyede explained further that, the command had embark on thorough investigation which is still on going at the end of which suspects will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
He appealed to the people of the sate to shun acts of extrajudicial killing by way of reprisal attacks. He said any offended party in a criminal matter should always bring his complaint before the police for investigation and possible prosecution instead of taking laws into his own hands. The public have the right to arrest but should thereafter hand over the suspect to the police but should not hurt or kill him.
