The popular market in Ilepo along the Lagos Abeokuta expressway in Okeodo /Abule Egba, Local Council Dev Area, was the ugly scene of a clash between recycled waste dealers with a potential for ethnic colouration had the police not intervened.
Investigation shows that Nigerians from different parts of the country who were insisting on retaining their turf on a dump site, about 70 meters from the market, exchanged charged words which led to the recruitment of supporters, leading to the fight that soon spread to the nearby market
In the ensuing fight, goods were destroyed some sustained injuries, while commuters ran for safety and vehicular traffic mounted until the quick arrival of police team restore calm. The place is still under police control.
More details of the actual cause of the clash and measures to resolve it are still unfolding.
