West African Ceramics Limited
As part of corporate social responsibility and way of curbing insecurity in Kogi State , the Management of West Africa Ceramics Limited has proposed establishment of Technical School to train youths.
The General Manager of West Africa Ceramics Limited, the producer of Royal Ceramics , Mr. Baskar Rao disclosed this when the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists ,Kogi State Council, Comrade Adeiza Momoh Jimoh paid a courtesy call to the corporate headquarters of the organisation in Ajaokuta, Ajaokuta local government of Kogi State at weekend .
Rao explained that when the Technical School is established it will admit more youths who are employable to the organisation , stressing that if the youths are preoccupied there will be no way to engage themselves in committing criminal activities.
Rao stated that no fewer than 1500 Kogi youths have been employed by the company since it began operation in 2009 in kogi state
Just as he explained that the expansion and subsequent production of various tiles, Roof tiles, granites and marbles products of the company had saved the country over N1 billion on importation every year.
While welcoming the NUJ Chairman and members of delegations, the General Manager explained that the West African Ceramics Limited was established in 1996 as small scale business in Suleja in Niger State , adding that the company finally moved to Ajaokuta in 2009.
He pointed that as at that period there were about six Ceramics companies were in existence but all went extinction except West Africa Ceramics Limited .
‘We started in Suleja those those we used to do small tiles work as at that time . When the Chairman, Alhaji Idris Lawal saw the need for expansion we moved to Ajaokuta in Kogi State in 2009.
“Since we started operation we have recruited about 85 percent of works from Kogi State while the remaining 15 part recent are from other parts of Nigeria .
“Prior to the this the area was a flash point for the hoodlums and motorist could not freely use the road ,but since 2009 and since employment more youths from the local area, the place is now secured even motorist are using in the road night,”he stressed.
Rao also explained that the products of West Africa Ceramics Limited products are cheaper than the other imported ceramic products in the country.
The General Manager stated that company uses 95 per cent local contents ,stressing that only 5 percent imported ingredients added and the best in the country .
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists ,Kogi State Council , Comrade Adeiza Momoh Jimoh told the general manager that since the establishment of this company ,the Journalists in the State did not know what they are doing in bid to partner with the company.
He commend the organisation for various award it had received with shortest period of time in the State , urging them to do more in area of relating with media to assist in promoting their products.
